hourly bus service on the urbanisation a car is recommended

Alicante Airport, which gives you more scope for adventuring

Guardamar del Segura stands at
the mouth of the river Segura and is surrounded by protected
pine, palm and eucalyptus trees all of which were planted to
prevent erosion of one of Spain’s finest beaches. Both the
Guardamar and Pineda beaches run for as far as the eye can
see and there are days when it seems almost deserted. These
beaches are ideal for families with young children as there
are pedaloes, beach bars and wind surfing facilities and is
safe for bathing.
Further back from the beach there are
pine forests to explore with plenty of picnic tables
available and at the end of the pine forest you can explore
the new marina with its vast array of luxury yachts and sand
dunes which lead onto the beach at the very end of the
forest. The Reina Sofia Park in the middle of the town
boasts numerous ponds and waterfalls with turtles, birds,
peacocks and other wildfowl and is beautiful to walk around
in the summer months as it has plenty of shady trees to sit
under, a children’s play area and is near to the main eating
area of Guardamar with lots of restaurants and bars of
various cuisines. There are numerous shops, particularly
leather shoe shops all locally produced and so are very
inexpensive. In the main avenue of the main town there are
lots of stalls set up in the height of the season selling
pictures, jewellery, leather goods etc. and is particularly
interesting to walk around.
Guardamar is also an important fishing centre and the area
is surrounded by first class fish restaurants, many of which
serve the Spiney Lobster as their speciality. On a
Sunday within walking distance of Eden is a very inexpensive
market selling new and used items and boasts various
restaurants and a cheap bodega in which to taste the local
wine. Be prepared to haggle if you really want a bargain
and carefully check the quality of anything you may wish to
buy.
It is well worth a visit to the castle ruins of Guardamar
set high above the town and has one of the best views of the
region for miles around. Because there are a number of
developments being built there are more and more bars,
restaurants and shops being opened up month after month to
cater for the growing number of tourists. A short drive away
brings you to Torreveija and this is the place to go if you
want lots of nightlife including lots of English bars and
restaurants. Torreveija boasts a couple of very good golf
courses and there is also one at Quesada only a short drive
away from Eden. Close by to Guardamar is a water park and
miniature fairground.
